IBS: Why That Diagnosis Doesn’t Tell You Anything
Let’s be blunt: when your doctor tells you that you have “IBS,” it usually means they ran out of ideas.
IBS is a blanket diagnosis that says nothing about the actual cause of your symptoms. Diarrhea? IBS. Constipation? IBS. Bloating, gas, pain, nausea? IBS.
Basically, if your colonoscopy and basic labs look fine, they hand you the IBS label and call it a day.
Here’s the reality:
IBS is a cluster of symptoms, not a root cause. Your bloating might be small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). Your diarrhea might be a gut infection. Your constipation might be tied to thyroid dysfunction. Or maybe your nervous system is running the show because of chronic stress. IBS tells us nothing except that your gut is unhappy.
In Utah, I hear this all the time from clients in Salt Lake County, Utah County, and Park City: “My doctor told me it’s IBS, handed me some meds, and sent me on my way.” That’s not treatment… that’s dismissal. If you’re still suffering, you deserve better.
SO?
Stop settling for a useless label. Book a consultation and let’s dig deeper with advanced testing. We’ll identify what’s actually driving your symptoms so you can finally move beyond the “IBS” stamp.
