Why You May Not Need HRT (Yet)
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can be life-changing… for the right person, at the right time. But here’s the thing no one talks about: If you’re not in menopause, HRT might not fix the root problem.
The HRT Hype
Everywhere you turn, someone’s talking about bioidentical hormones, progesterone creams, or estrogen pellets. And while those have a place, many women start them too soon.
If your cycle is still regular (even if it’s rough), your body is still producing hormones. Slapping more on top doesn’t always solve the issue… it can make things worse.
What’s Really Going On
In your 20s, 30s, and early 40s, hormone symptoms like mood swings, cramps, bloating, or fatigue are usually driven by imbalances, not deficiencies. That means your body still makes hormones, but they’re not communicating properly due to stress, blood sugar swings, nutrient gaps, gut issues, or poor detoxification.
If you patch symptoms with HRT without fixing those foundations, it’s like painting over a moldy wall. Looks better for a minute… but the problem’s still growing underneath.
What to Do Instead
Before jumping to HRT, focus on:
Balancing blood sugar (your cortisol and estrogen will thank you)
Optimizing gut health (so you can actually clear excess hormones)
Supporting liver detox pathways
Managing stress and sleep (because cortisol is the boss of your hormones)
Once those are addressed, your hormones often rebalance naturally.
When HRT Does Make Sense
HRT can be incredibly helpful post-menopause, or for certain conditions like premature ovarian failure. But even then, it works best when you have a strong foundation… not as a substitute for it.
